Dubrovnik's most famous and beloved church is St Blaises church which was built in honour of Dubrovniks patron Saint, St Blaise in the 18th century there is also a cathedral and Domican monastery which houses an art museum.The bell tower originally built in 1444 and rebuilt in 1929 after an earthquake, is also an impressive sight to see at 31 metres in height,the clock face is made of brass and shows the lunar phases and 2 human figurines strike the bell hourly.The bell tower is located next to the Gothic House of the Main Guard , formerly the resdience of the Admiral, commander in chief of the army.
In the bay of Dubrovnik you will find the wooded island of Lokrum, where if legend is to be believed Richard the Lionheart was one shipwrecked,the island has botantical gardens , a monastery and a famous naturist beach. Dubrovnik is served by a local airport located only 20 kilometres from the city and also has good bus and ferry links to other parts of Croatia, Dubrovnik at present has no rail links.
