Greece offers two very different gulet weeks: island hopping in the Dodecanese, where Kos, Rhodes and their smaller neighbours lie only a few hours apart, and the sheltered Saronic Gulf, close to Athens.

Dodecanese Routes from Kos and Rhodes
The Kos–Patmos route moves in short daily legs to Pserimos, Kalymnos and the Lipsi islands, then to Patmos, with its Monastery of St John and Cave of the Apocalypse, before returning via Leros. The Kos–Rhodes–Kos loop covers more distance, visiting volcanic Nisyros, Tilos, Halki, Rhodes and Symi, with a stop at Knidos on the Turkish coast that needs border clearance. From Rhodes, the Rhodes–Kos–Rhodes route visits Alimia, Halki, Tilos, Nisyros, Kos and Symi before returning to Mandraki.
The Saronic Gulf from Athens
The Athens Saronic Gulf route is the easiest Greek week to combine with a stay in Athens. Islands such as Poros, Hydra and Agistri are close together, the waters are more sheltered from the summer Meltemi than the open Aegean, and the ancient theatre at Epidavros makes a memorable excursion.
How to Choose a Greece Route
- Flights: choose Kos or Rhodes for the Dodecanese, and Athens for the Saronic Gulf.
- Sea conditions: the Saronic Gulf is the most sheltered; Dodecanese routes can be livelier when the Meltemi blows in July and August.
- Interests: for history choose Patmos, Rhodes or Epidavros; for volcanic scenery choose Nisyros; for car-free harbour towns choose Hydra.
- Combining countries: Kos and Rhodes lie close to the Turkish coast, and some routes include a stop in Turkey.
